Introducing Louisa Tebbutt November 09 2015, 0 Comments

Louisa Tebbutt is a London based fine art and mixed media artist.

We are delighted to have Louisa as the latest edition to Hatch family.
The new collection Series 1 utilizes oxidised steel as a 'canvas'. Both the stunning original works and the signed limited edition prints are exclusive to Hatch. Private commissions are also available POA.

Louisa is currently working in oxidized steel but her commissions and exhibits include digital collage, graphite as well as painting and portraiture.

Graduating from Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) in 2000 with BA (Hons) Tapestry, followed by Glasgow University 2002 M.Phil Design & Applied Art, Louisa combines traditional art education with emphasis on figurative studies including the long-established skills of anatomical instruction with an experimental approach.

Louisa’s first collection of works on oxidized steel is receiving considerable attention, with 'Looking Out' accepted for the new screening project at the Saatchi Gallery, London.

Looking Out

The collection juxtaposes the solidity of the material with the image depicted. “Oxidized steel is a material that holds traces of passing time, traces that consist of varying textures and patterns. Layering the paint the emerging image entwines itself with the medium.”

The day is not far off.

Works in pencil include Masked Tales - a collection of silent moments taken from the sinister tales of the Brothers Grimm - full of macabre and gruesome twists and endings. “Before Disney packed them full of happy endings and singing teapots, Fairy Tales were dark, violent stories told to teach children harsh lessons. Just as Marina Warner explored this subject in her book, From the Beast to the Blonde, I have explored it through pencil.”
